Dubai: The UAE yesterday missed out on a third medal in equestrian at the 2011 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Athens, but the national team coach was hopeful of picking up some more honours with three more days of competition still to go.

"It is not the end for us and we were unfortunate not to get one more medal," UAE coach Lilian Sternvad told Gulf News from Athens.

Up for competition yesterday was Aisha Saif Al Dhaheri, who did well with her ride, but made one simple mistake while doing the circle. "And that small mistake proved costly for Aisha," Sternvad said.

"But there is a lot of hope for us as we have another three days of competition left and I can see that they are really eager to go out there and add a few more medals to the tally," the trainer said.

As per official figures, the UAE has won three medals at the Athens Games so far with two of these coming from equestrian in the past two days.

Sultan Saif Al Khaili opened the UAE's quest for medals by winning gold in the boys Prix Caprilli on Tuesday. This was followed by a silver medal from teenager Wafa Sulaiman Al Kindi in the English Equitation on Wednesday.
