Muscat: Job seekers in Jalan Bani Bu Ali, some 190km east of Muscat, went on the rampage on Sunday damaging public as well as private properties, according to Oman News Agency (ONA).

Quoting a security source, the ONA said that arsonists entered a number of public offices and destroyed properties as well as vehicles.

Some of them were arrested and legal action would be taken against them for their involvement in the destructive acts.

The security agencies have warned residents not to indulge in acts of violence or even instigate acts that could prejudice public law and order.

"Such acts would be dealt with strictly to secure the security of residents and maintain public and private properties," the security agency source was quoted as saying by ONA.

According to witnesses the angry job seekers damaged Wali's Office, Housing Ministry buildings, primary court premises Ja'alan Municipality.

The young job seekers turned violent when they felt that the Manpower Ministry committee visiting the town for recruiting Omani citizens fell short of meeting their own demands.

According to some sources, the jobs offered by the visiting ministry committee were far below the expectations of the youth of the area. They rejected the job offers and resorted to vandalism.
