Abu Dhabi: The world's largest charity marathon to raise funds for cancer research, Terry Fox Run, will be held in Abu Dhabi on Friday, February 8.

The event gets its name from Terry Fox, who was only 18 when he was diagnosed with osteogenic sarcoma (bone cancer) and forced to have his right leg amputated.

While in hospital, Terry was so overcome by the suffering of other cancer patients that he decided to run across Canada to raise money for cancer research.

Though he later succumbed to cancer, the campaign he kicked off continues.

  • Registration begins at 8am and the event will start at 10am on Friday February 8th, 2008.

The run will kick off from the parking lot behind the Sheraton Abu Dhabi Hotel and Resort to the Khaleej Al Arabi road and back.

You can walk, run, roller-blade or skateboard, but regrettably, cycling will not be permitted due to safety measures.
