Abu Dhabi: The committee tasked with following up on the implementation of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan orders on infrastructure development projects in the UAE ordered the construction and replacement of 138 new villas in Fujairah and Ras Al Khaimah for Emiratis.

Out of the 138 villas, 94 will be built in Al Hamraniya in Ras Al Khaimah after conducting a thorough survey and study regarding the housing needs of Emiratis in the area and after evaluating the condition of current buildings. In Fujairah, 44 villas will be replaced in Al Difta, Al Mareer, Masafi Fujairah, Al Bathna and Wadi Sidr.

The project approved during the committee's meeting on Sunday, chaired by Ahmad Juma Al Za'abi, Deputy Minister of Presidential Affairs and chairman of the committee, is in line with the directives of Shaikh Khalifa to raise living, economic and social standards for Emiratis.

Survey

The committee reviewed a report regarding the replacement of villas affected by the earthquake back in 2002, which affected some areas in Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah.

The report indicated that most damage incurred by the buildings were addressed with the replacement and construction of 98 new villas and complete maintenance works carried out on 70 houses at a cost of Dh143 million.

The committee ordered technical teams to carry out a complete survey of the affected areas to ensure that all houses that were affected by the earthquake have obtained the necessary works and maintenance.

The committee also viewed a presentation of this year's housing project's plans that were approved in the previous meeting, such as the residential compound in Kalba which consists of 100 houses, as well as the compound in Wadi Al Qoor that includes 61 houses.

The committee said a tender will be carried out next week for the implementation of these projects.

Tenders for the other housing projects that were approved by the committee will also be carried out soon, with the committee's technical bodies conducting follow-ups to ensure that the projects are quickly completed.

The committee also approved projects to complete the Abdullah Omran Hospital in Ras Al Khaimah at a cost of Dh90 million. Works will include providing the hospital with furniture, medical tools and equipment, in addition to other electric, gas and mechanical requirements, in addition to other construction modifications that will be carried out.

Al Za'abi extended his thanks to the philanthropist who donated to the construction of this hospital. He stressed the importance of quickly completing the necessary works in order to have the hospital operating as soon as possible. He emphasised the significance of the hospital because it supports medical services in the emirate and the neighbouring areas.
