Dubai: Dh8 - that's what each fireman who risked his life saving passengers and pulling out bodies from the site of a plane crash will get as a reward for bravery from the Karnataka government in India.

The 85 fire department personnel who worked for five days at the crash site of Air India Express IC 812 from Dubai to Mangalore on May 22, 2010, received certificates with an instruction to collect a cash reward of Rs100 (around Dh8) each from the district treasury in Mangalore, eleven months after the tragic accident.

Many passengers who perished in the crash lived in the UAE.

While the firefighters have declined to go on record, the general consensus is that they have been "insulted" by the Karnataka government, reported CNN-IBN.
