Abu Dhabi: Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) has closed a pharmacy for one month and given warnings to ten other pharmacies after they were found to be selling banned medicines and prescription drugs over the counter.

A specialist doctor was also suspended for issuing medical reports without examining patients. Officials stressed that doctors and health establishments are not to issue health certificates or carry out marriage tests without HAAD's approval first.

"HAAD's inspection team has undergone training to be able to detect faults in health establishments. I am delighted with the cooperation from the private health sector in their commitment to HAAD regulations and policies," said Zaid Al Siksek, Director of Health Policy and Regulation, HAAD.

Adeeb Al Za'abi, manager of the Facility Licensing and Inspection Department at HAAD said: "Our inspection team will continue to go on surprise visits to hospitals, pharmacies and clinics. Inspectors spot violations which may be help the health establishment to improve themselves."
