Dubai: A British family who found themselves lost in the desert with no help at hand has been rescued by a helicopter from Dubai Police's Air Wing.

The family lost their way in the Murgham desert area of Dubai, and they had no way out because their car was also stuck in the sand.

They contacted the control room of the police's Operations Department to report that they were lost and could not find their way to the main road, or any sign of nearby help.

A helicopter from the Air Wing, led by Major Pilot Ahmad Al Merri accompanied by Lieutenant Pilot Mohammad Al Mulla, immediately took off to help the family.

The pilot succeeded in locating the family's car in a very short time by calling them on a mobile phone, and after landing in the area, the two experienced pilots helped get the family's car out of the sand and led them to the main road.

Al Merri urged the public to carry a Global Positioning System (GPS) before going to the desert to help them identify their position and inform security bodies of their exact location in case of emergency.

He also stressed that anyone in a similar situation should contact police for help immediately before getting in deeper trouble.
