Muscat: Shaikh Ahmad Bin Mohammad Al Eisa’ee, Chairman of Majlis Al Shura, has appealed to Omani citizens to resume their work and join hands to ensure the welfare and prosperity of this nation.

Addressing an extraordinary meeting of the Shura on Wednesday, the Chairman urged everyone (omani citizens) to come back to their work, push forward the wheel of production and utilise their energy in the service of this dear nation.

“Our country has witnessed benign popular movement represented in peaceful demonstration by citizens of this nation to demanding political, social and economic reforms that go in line with the reality of the current stage and the aspired future for the welfare and security of Oman,” he said referring to the recent development in the country.

Al Al Eisa’ee pointed out that Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed’s response to such demands has been quick and reflected real feeling of the needs of citizens.
He affirmed the national unity between the leader and his people. He also pointed out that Shura had played an important role in conveying the real picture and the legitimate demands of the citizens to the Sultan with full transparency and clarity.

The Shura Chairman highlighted the selection of five ministers from the current elected members of Shura as well as two former members as the Council of Ministers or as head of public organisations with ministerial rank.

“It is a big symbolic implication which reflects the respect and esteem of the Sultan to the opinion of the citizens,” he added.

He pointed out the Royal decree granting the Council of Oman the legislative and audit powers and the formation of a technical committee to amend the Basic Law of the State to achieve this purpose is a milestone step in the scope of work and powers of Shura.

“It affirms that the Sultanate has entered a new and advanced stage in practicing democracy,” Al Issa’ee said.

“This led to a wide satisfaction with citizens and gave an important indicator on the nature of the next stage of development in the Sultanate which requires all to join hands to ensure the welfare and prosperity of this nation,” he further added.

The members of the Shura called on the respective authorities of the state to strictly combat any vandalism act, regardless of its source or reason. They also called for strict implementation of the law and order till normality is restored at the different sites, public utilities to help the Omani citizen enjoy peace and security.
