Dubai: As expected, the UAE's Omar Behroozian and Kuwait's Mohammad Al Ghareeb will meet in the singles final of the GCC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships being held at the Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Stadium at the Fujairah Tennis and Country Club (FTCC).

Behroozian waged a grim battle before settling for a 7-5, 7-5 win against Oman's Mohammad Al Nabhani, while Al Ghareeb easily got past the second UAE challenger Mahmoud Nader Al Baloushi 6-2, 6-2 to book a mouth-watering final meeting today.

In the two contrasting semi-finals, Al Ghareeb was always in command as he got the breaks when necessary to tame Al Baloushi who has been showing an improving ability to play some clever tennis. But Al Ghareeb was in a league of his own during the entire encounter as he dominated with his huge serves and baseline play.

The second semi-final was a complete opposite with Behroozian breaking his opponent in the 12th game on both occasions to take the set and match 7-5, 7-5. "It was a tough match where neither of us got too many rallies going for a long time," Behroozian told Gulf News.

Meanwhile, Behroozian teamed up with Al Baloushi to secure a 6-1, 6-2 win against the Kuwaiti pairing of Ziad Hussain and Abdul Rahman Al Awadhi to set up a meeting in the doubles final against the Al Nabhani brothers from Oman.

The singles final will be played at 12 noon today.
