Dubai: One of the top officials from the Local Organising Committee (LOC) has vouched this will be the best championships in the history of Fina, the world governing body for swimming.

"We promise one and all the best competition in Dubai over the next five days," Dr Khalid Al Zahed, Deputy Championships Director told Gulf News.

"We also promise each and every swimmer and official a very unique experience in Dubai," he added.

The Dubai Government has not stopped short of anything in making the 10th Fina World Swimming Championships (25m) a memorable event thus far. Starting with a budget in excess of Dh1 billion for building the new state of-the-art Hamdan Bin Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Sports Complex, the Local Organising Committee further delivered on its promise of officially opening on the auspicious date of 10-10-10.

Impressive addition

Dr Al Zahed, who was appointed as one of the board of directors of the Hamdan Bin Mohammad Sports Complex earlier this week, insisted that the emergence of the new sports complex in Dubai would be an impressive addition to the sport in the future.

"This complex is not just about Dubai. It is about making a welcome addition to the world of swimming itself. You cannot get anything similar to this complex anywhere else in the world at this moment," Dr. Al Zahed noted.

The LOC official further insisted that the organisers have lined up an array of activities for the athletes and spectators alike. The entrance of the complex has a specially set up "Souk Lane" that will house a fun corner, food court and other family activities.

"The swimmers will have the opportunity of taking in some of the magnificent sites all over Dubai while the spectators who attend the competition will get the chance of getting acquainted with the heritage and culture of the UAE," Dr Al Zahed promised.

Reaction: Live up to promise

"We have delivered on all our promises so far, and now it is time to live up to one last promise: that of making this competition the best ever in the over 100 years history of Fina," Dr Al Zahed said.

Tickets for the competition are available at the venue along the Dubai Bypass Road (E611) or can be purchased at select Spinneys outlets in Dubai and Abu Dhabi or online at www.boxofficeme.com.
