Dubai: A top official from Emirates NBD Bank has pledged its commitment to a healthy and sporting society following its sponsorship of the 10th Fina World Swimming Championships (25-metre) from December 15-19.

"Emirates NBD is committed to enabling the development of a sports-focused community in the UAE, and supports various sporting initiatives," said Saif Al Mansouri, Deputy Head of Group Marketing for Emirates NBD.

"Water-based sports are of particular interest to us, because the sea is at the heart of our culture and tradition, and sea-related activities like pearl diving, fishing and dhow building were the economic mainstays of life in the UAE in pre-oil times," he added.

"We are pleased to support the 10th Fina World Swimming Championship because it gives us an opportunity to go back to our roots and reiterate our commitment to sport, in particular UAE-based initiatives."

Emirates NBD Bank is one of the sponsors of this global event that has attracted a record 900 swimmers from more than 135 countries. The other sponsors are etisalat, Dubai Duty Free, Roads and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM), Dewa and Saudi Bin Laden Group.
