Salt Lake City: A judge on Wednesday ordered a psychiatric evaluation for a man accused of telling bank employees he was "on a mission to kill" President Barack Obama.

Federal Magistrate Robert T. Braithwaite ordered the evaluation for Daniel James Murray, 36, who has a history of mental illness, according to his family and prosecutors.

Murray says he is competent but won't fight the government request, said his public defender, Robert Steele.

The US Secret Service has said Murray threatened the president last month at Zions First National Bank in St. George, a town in southern Utah.

Court documents said Murray was the registered owner of at least eight firearms, but it wasn't clear whether he still owned them.
