Manama: Two Saudi students have been sentenced to clean a local mosque for one hour for five days.

The judge said that he issued the verdict against the two 17-year old boys after they were found guilty of turning up the volume of their music players while listening to songs during prayers in Madinah, Muslims' second most sacred city.

"The two teenagers were put on trial after worshippers complained about their behaviour during the prayers," Motref Al Bishr said. "The ruling took into consideration their young age and the fact that they were students. The purpose is to discipline them."

The mosque supervisor will oversee the implementation of the ruling, Al Madinah newspaper reported.
