Abu Dhabi: Fifty-five UAE research grants covering science, technology and environment, have been awarded to a wide range of UAE university research teams by the Emirates Foundation for Philanthropy.
The winners will receive grants of up to Dh200,000 each, over two years to help fund important research work in science, technology, engineering, IT, food and agriculture, medicine and health studies. The announcement was made at a press conference in Abu Dhabi on Monday.
The grants have been assessed through a highly competitve process, which included internal scrutiny based on accurate scientific standards and an external peer jury, said Peter Cleaves, CEO of the Emirates Foundation.
"The approved projects are required to be relevant to the UAE's development requirements and each winning researcher must train two young Emirati researchers as part of the assignment."
The grantees are from UAE University, American University of Sharjah, Sharjah University, Abu Dhabi Univeristy, Wollongong University (Dubai), Khalifa University of Science, Technology and Research, British University in Dubai, American University in Dubai, Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, Petroleum Institute Abu Dhabi and Boston University Dental School.
