Dubai: Vehicles bearing Dubai licence plate numbers will now be able to pay fines — issued against them for illegal passenger transport in Sharjah — at the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) offices.
The new initiative aims to avoid delay in the collection of fines, especially since these are not linked to the Dubai traffic system.
The RTA has signed an agreement with Sharjah Transport for the collection of "Passengers Smuggling Fines" — a step which is aimed at saving the time and effort of customers as well as the concerned entities.

Ahmad Behroozian, CEO of the RTA Licensing Agency said: "This agreement is part of our mission to foster safe driving practices across the community, and enhance customer experiences by adopting world-class standards...
"It reflects the awareness of the two parties about the negative impact of passenger transport activities [and their] outlawed practices [which invariably affect] the incomes of taxis operating under franchise agreements as well as the civilised image of the UAE.
"Such negative practices have to be combated by issuing fines."
Abdullah Al Zari, Director-General of Sharjah Transport said: "This reflects the sincere intention of the government bodies to make agreements that help resolve problems for the benefit of customers, in an efficient and prompt manner."
He added that the agreement looks to benefit both parties.
