Abu Dhabi: One year after the success of Magic on Ice, Steve Wheeler is back with a new show filled with thrilling ice skating routines and magic acts that are sure to capture hearts once again. Only this time, the venue will be the multi-purpose Abu Dhabi Hall in the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (Adnec).

"It's great to be back… we had a fantastic time last year… and we're excited to be back here, premiering our new show, Fantasy on Ice," Wheeler, President and Executive Producer, Wheeler Productions Inc said.

Fantasy on Ice, which took 10 months to complete, will see 15 professional skaters from around the world, including Wheeler, take the audience on a magical journey that will include some never-before-seen stunts, such as skaters levitating to the top of a 4.5 metre-high tree where they will then perform a complicated, choreographed routine.

Show to appeal

"We incorporated a lot of aerial artistry plus new magic tricks, routines… the performance will also have a lot of different elements such as fantasy, comedy, storytelling, and of course, magic," Steve explained.

"We wanted to make a show that would appeal to the entire family. In fact, for our finale, we will be encouraging the children in the audience to come down and be a part of the show," he added.

A 400 square metre state-of-the-art portable ice rink, the first of its kind to be used in the Middle East, has been specially developed by Germany's Ice Business for the production.

"This is not the first time that we use a portable ice rink … it's great that it's so versatile and can be set up anywhere. Actually, we had it set up in another hall because [the] Lord of the Dance was being shown the same time we were rehearsing!" Steve said. Because of the increased enthusiasm to see his shows, the founder and creator of Fantasy on Ice noted that perhaps one day, the capital city may have a new resident.

"I wouldn't mind having a permanent show in Abu Dhabi… in fact, my team loves it here. The other day they were asking whether we would extend the show to six months!" Wheeler said, laughing.
