Abu Dhabi: Malek Al Rashedi, who has been drafted into the Abu Dhabi Motorsports Management as Senior Director Corporate Governance feels its launch will help discover and nurture talented Emirati motor sports enthusiasts.

Speaking during the launch of the state-of-the-art racing school, Al Rashidi said: "The Yas Racing School will help us to discover talented individuals.

"I believe that there are many Emiratis who are talented drivers and who have not been discovered yet."

The UAE national, who brings with him the experience of having worked in Adnoc, the Abu Dhabi Restructuring Committee and the Abu Dhabi Government Services Company as Director of Business Support Services will be responsible for all corporate-wide governance, and making the racing school a success is part of his brief.

Best teachers

"We have attempted to get the best people to train, guide and advise people in driving the cars; to keep them safe and to guide them in what field and categories of car racing to pursue," Al Rashedi said, adding that safety was a key aspect.

"This circuit is important for road safety. Our goal is to spread awareness and to keep the streets safe from reckless drivers," he said adding that he hoped Emiratis and expatriates with a passion for racing would now avail of the school's facilities. "The main goal is to spread awareness to people, to let them know that there is a place in Yas Circuit to drive in a responsible manner; to save their lives and the lives of others," he said.

Staff Major General Obaid Al Kitbi of the Abu Dhabi Police welcomed the opening of the Racing School and said, "The Racing School offers enthusiastic drivers the opportunity to drive in safety.

And he added: "The race track is the right place to measure your skill behind the wheel — not the public roads."
