Murray skips Davis Cup
Great Britain's top player and fourth seed at the Wimbledon Andy Murray has decided to skip their Davis Cup relegation playoff against Turkey next month.
The 23-year-old said he has informed British team captain Leon Smith of his decision, while adding that he is not retiring from the competition.
A loss to Turkey would send Britain into the competition's bottom tier for the first time in the country's history.
World No 4 Murray has insisted his decision to skip the Turkey tie — to be played from July 9-11 in Eastbourne — could potentially be won 5-0 without him playing.
New points system
Though the world number two, Roger Federer starts his title defence as the top seed at The Championships on the basis of a re-arrangement of the top 32 players on a surface-based system on the ATP Entry System Position (ESP). Since 2002, following an agreement made with the ATP, the singles seeding order is determined using an objective and transparent system to reflect more accurately an individual player's grass court achievements.
The formula followed is:
• Take ESP points at June 14, 2010
• Add 100 per cent points earned for all grass court tournaments in the past 12 months and then
• Add 75 per cent points earned for best grass court tournament in the 12 months before that.
