Abu Dhabi: GCC citizens will not have to pay new fees while crossing into the UAE via its land crossing points, the Ministry of Interior has announced.

Major General Nasser Al Awadi Al Menhali, acting Assistant undersecretary of the Ministry of Interior for Naturalisation, Residency and Exits Affairs, made the clarification after reports about complaints from Omani land travellers on imposition of fees while passing through the UAE's border checking centres.

"These news are entirely incorrect," he said.

In the meantime, he urged the satellite channel to seek accuracy and adopt professional media methods in obtaining information from concerned sources instead of following rumours.

Colonel Saleh Bin Mubarak al Nuaimi, Commander of Dhahirah Region Police in Oman, assured that streamlining of travel procedures is progressing as usual under the joint cooperation between the two brotherly countries.

The Omani official also denied the news report.
