Manama: A Kuwaiti activist, who was on board of a ship attacked by Israel as it was carrying aid to Gaza, said that Palestinians needed genuine economic support and media action from people outside the besieged Strip.

"There is a huge need for more support for the people in Gaza, be it money, sponsoring of orphans or construction of destroyed houses," Wael Al Abdul Qader said in Qatar.

"Palestinians need humanitarian aid and, very significantly, need media action," he said at a ceremony hosted by Qatar Charity to honour three Kuwaiti Gaza flotilla activists.

Al Abdul Qader, who was accompanied with his daughter Sondos, said his participation in the Freedom Flotilla was to deliver food items to Palestinians in Gaza and to have the honour of visiting Palestine and meeting with people from Gaza, "the last bastion."

"We must all contribute to assisting the Palestinians, according to the best of our capabilities. It can be done through donating money, sponsoring orphans or restoring homes. Palestine should be an everyday concern for all of us," he said.

Haya Al Shatti, another Kuwaiti activist who was on board the flotilla, said that Gaza was the last steadfast spot in Palestine that should be well protected, to prevent the fall of the whole land, according to Qatari daily Gulf Times.

The reception programme included a play, Freedom Waves, that narrated the saga of the Freedom Flotilla and the Israeli lethal raid on the Mavi Marmara ship amid promises that more waves would be moving towards Gaza.

In a separate event, more than 800 people attended a carnival hosted by Al Andalus elementary school to highlight the siege of Gaza and the Israeli deadly attacks on the Gaza-bound ship.
