Dubai: A physician denied in court Monday negligence on the part of his colleague, a female doctor, in the case of two children who died of food poisoning last year.

The physician who was present in the Dubai Misdemeanours Court as a defence witness, claimed the 46-year-old Iraqi woman doctor treated five-year-old Nathan D'Souza and his sister, Chelsea, 7, "according to the medical code of ethics and provided them with the necessary medical care when they were admitted to hospital".

Prosecutors accused the Iraqi, a 25-year-old Nepalese cook and a 33-year-old Filipino restaurant supervisor of negligence and mistakenly causing the death of the D'Souza children.

The defendants pleaded not guilty.
