Ras Al Khaimah: A speeding car ran over a Bangladeshi national yesterday in Al Fillayah and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

A senior officer at the Traffic and Licensing Department said that the 58-year-old victim identified as S.Kh was crossing the street early in the morning at around 2am when the accident took place.

The victim was still in the middle of the street when the police patrols arrested the Emirati driver.

The officer added that the driver, who is in his early twenties, was speeding and was shocked to find the victim crossing the street.

The victim succumbed to his injuries while the medics were attending to him on the scene.

Charges

The officer said that the accident was reported to police which sent its ambulance and vehicles to the scene to handle it.

The victim's body was transferred to the morgue at the Saqr Hospital to be later handed over to his family and friends for burial.

The officer said that the case was referred to the emirate's Public Prosecution for further investigations and to press for charges against the Emirati driver, who was held responsible for the victim's death.

The officer added that road accident death toll has risen to 26 people since the beginning of the year, of whom 14 were Emiratis and 12 were expatriates of various nationalities.
