London: The boyfriend of Baby P's mother, jailed last year for causing the death of the toddler, Tuesday lost his bid to appeal against a conviction for the rape of a two-year-old girl.

Steven Barker, 33, the partner of baby Peter's mother Tracey Connelly, was jailed for life for the rape and told he must serve at least 10 years.

Barker, 33, lost a Court of Appeal challenge over the conviction in January and yesterday Lord Chief Justice Lord Judge refused his application to have his case heard by Britain's top court, the Supreme Court.

Lord Judge ruled the case did not raise any "point of law of general public importance", the Press Association reported. "That, therefore, is the end of the matter," he said.

Barker, Connelly and Barker's brother Jason Owen were together convicted of causing or allowing Peter's death in August 2007 at the age of just 17 months.
