Dubai: The UAE cricket team geared up for the International Cricket Council (ICC) World Cup qualifier by taking on a strong Ireland team in Pretoria on Monday.

The UAE lost the match by eight wickets but gained experience of playing under the conditions in South Africa.

The UAE won the toss and elected to bat but Ireland's right arm medium pacer Peter Connell had openers Arshad Ali caught and bowled for one and Amjad Javed caught behind by Niall O'Brien for 10 runs

Nithin Gopal and Saqib Ali took the score to 58 when Gopal was dismissed for 17.

The rest of the batsmen failed to reach double figures except for No 9 batsman Owais Hameed, who hit 16 runs.

Former UAE skipper Saqib Ali top scored with 29 runs.

Regan West, Ireland's left-arm medium pacer was the chief destroyer with a spell of 4 for 21 and UAE were bowled out for 132 runs in 43.1 overs.

The UAE got an early wicket when Amjad Javed had Ireland captain William Porterfield caught behind by Naeemuddin for 10 runs while Nitin Gopal clean bowled their star batsman Eoin Morgan for 12.

Opener Gary Wilson, who plays for Surrey County team, hit an unbeaten 83 off 102 balls and the guided the Irish side to victory in 34.3 overs.

The UAE will take on Bermuda in the opening match of the World Cup qualifier on April 1.

The first four in this qualifier can get to play in the 2011 World Cup.
