Abu Dhabi: Kerbelle Lotoise under David Badel gave Oman another Group win here while jockeys Tadhg O'Shea and Wayne Smith registered a double each at the season's penultimate race at the Abu Dhabi Equestrian Club yesterday.
The Omani raider, a 4-year-old Kerbella filly had failed to impress in her first start but in yesterday's Arabian Triple Crown (Round 3), a Group 3 race, the Philippe Barbe-trained runner lived up to her top rating winning from Neferman.
The task was made easier after Raeaa W'rsan became a late withdrawal leaving just four runners in the Dh200,000 race over 12 furlongs. After Naseem Al Reef did all the running, Neferman hit the front with two furlongs to go. But Badel brought Kerbelle to the front and the Omani runner held on to win by half a length.
"She is a very strong filly and likes to ride hard," said jockey Badel after his win.
"Tonight's extra furlong also helped Kerbella Lotoise," added the French jockey who had also won the Second Round of the Arabian Triple Crown on Omani runner El Charif.
Wayne Smith picked up a double riding winners on the Bakhit Al Ketbi-trained GRP Baghdad and the Musabah Al Muhairi-trained Bareq.
Tadhg O'Shea, who is leading the jockeys' championship, added two more to take his tally to 34. After winning the Al Wathba Stud Farm race for Private Owners, a race for UAE-bred maidens on AF Raad, O'Shea won the last race for thoroughbreds on the Ali Rashid Al Raihe-trained Ramadi.
