Ajman: A man named as the father of an abandoned baby girl found in Ajman is insisting that she is not his child, police told Gulf News.

The 30-year-old man was arrested by police last week.

According to police, the baby was three months old when she was abandoned around a month ago.

She was an illegal child born to a Filipina mother and a Pakistani father.

Brigadier Ali Abdullah Alwan, Chief of Ajman Police told Gulf News that police's hunt for the mother was fruitful and she was finally arrested a month after she abandoned her baby, who was born out of wedlock.

According to Brig Alwan a baby girl was found abandoned around a month ago in early hours on Ajman Corniche.

"Our police team who were hunting the parents were able to trace the mother who works for a company in Ajman," he said.

Brig Alwan said the Filipina mother, 25, who is now detained in jail admitted that she gave birth to the baby and that the father of her baby was her Pakistani boyfriend.

"She informed police about him and he was arrested by Dubai police and sent to Ajman police," he said.

The man works and lives in Dubai.

The woman told police that the father abandoned the mother and the baby and her only choice was to abandon her baby as she was helpless and did not know what to do.

Outside marriage

The mother told police that she was aware that she would go to jail for having a baby outside marriage and she was not able to convince the father to accept his baby.

"The baby is now with her mother. The father is also in jail," he said.

A DNA test will be conducted to find out if he is the father.

According to the UAE punitive law, the couple could be deported if found guilty of committing adultery.
