Abu Dhabi: All 16,000 hotel rooms are fully booked with a 100 per cent occupancy level due to the Formula One event this weekend, a senior official from the Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority (ADTA) said.

In its efforts to increase Abu Dhabi's tourism potential over the next few years, the ADTA has introduced new visitor centres at the race track and in shopping malls.

The ADTA also has a permanent location at the Abu Dhabi International Airport.

"We have introduced significant new visitor collateral including postcards of tourist sights, cultural attractions and of traditional pursuits, a new official visitor guide, a motivational brochure and 31 fliers in seven languages devoted to a range of attractions throughout the emirate," Lawrence Franklin, ADTA's strategy and policy director, told Gulf News.

The ADTA will also conduct guided tours across Abu Dhabi to travel buyers arriving from the United States, Asia and Europe.

Grand tour

Media representatives arriving from 12 countries, and a number of stakeholder partners and celebrities will also be given a grand tour across the emirate for the first time.

Franklin said they would be given guided tours to market Abu Dhabi as a tourism destination.

He added that they hoped that the stakeholders would make Abu Dhabi the hub of their future business activities.

Formula One, Franklin added, brings major strength to the tourism sector in Abu Dhabi.

"The legacy of infrastructure development, spurred on by the arrival of Formula One, adds major strength to our tourism destination.

"A world class, unique major motorsport venue, corporate venues, seven hotels on Yas Island alone and major new road infrastructure are all examples," he said.
