Abu Dhabi: There is no mass exodus of Indians from the UAE due to job cuts triggered by the global economic crisis, the Indian Ambassador told Gulf News yesterday.
"Some people are exaggerating by saying large number of Indians are being sent back home due to projects being put on hold or abandoned," said Talmiz Ahmed.
Although some media reports from India said 20,000 expats will be leaving by March, he said there was no proof the bookings were made for Indians who lost jobs. "Some companies may book the flight tickets for their staff after completion of their projects".
The Indian embassy also understands that the UAE government is making every effort to ensure that most ongoing projects are completed as per schedule, Ahmad said. "Speculating about figures is ‘premature and unhelpful," he said.
