Abu Dhabi Students, teachers and academics at the Al Mutanabi Boy's school are expected to return to school on Sunday, after the institution was closed for the rest of the week due to influenza-like symptoms
"We cannot confirm that any of the students in the Al Mutanabi Boy's school have H1N1, however some of them have the symptoms, that's why we sent them home and have a team following up on each of the cases," Dr Mugheer Al Khaili, Director General of the Abu Dhabi Education Council (ADEC) told Gulf News.
In the meantime students are expected to continue with their studies through assignments to be completed at home. The school was shut following recommendations from the Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) and the ADEC to closely monitor influenza-like illnesses to prevent the spread of H1N1 in schools across Abu Dhabi.
Five other classes in various public schools have also been shut down due to unconfirmed suspicions of H1N1 cases.
Previously, Gulf News reported that students in Grade 6 of the British School Al Khubairat were also required by the ADEC and HAAD to stay home for a week due to two confirmed H1N1 cases in the school.
Medical assistance
A boy aged nine and another boy aged 10, received the required medical assistance and are now said to be in good health.
In a circular sent Tuesday by ADEC regarding the situation, Dr Mugheer said: "We thank schools for following the correct notification procedures, and encourage them to continue to do so.
"Parents should also be aware of symptoms, and if they suspect their child might have the flu, they should keep their child home for a period of 7 days, or 24 hours after symptoms subside, which is longer."
