Dubai: The Minister of Education launched the first training programme of its kind in the region which aims at educating students with English language skills and qualifying them based on the best university requirements.

Dr Hanif Hassan announced the acceptance of Emirati students of grade 12 for all the country schools to avail of the preparation programme which will be executed at Zayed University, Higher Colleges of Technology and Applied Technology Institutes.

Dr Hanif toured the centres of preparing and qualifying students in Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah to check the students' attendance inside classrooms. He said the programme is part of a plan to develop education and increase the general education outcomes which can enable students to enrol in the best universities and in a way that prepares them to hold responsibilities in the future.

Dr Hanif said the programme came out after preparing a special plan to enable students learn the English language skills and help them avoid the language preparatory year at the university.

He said the programme in its fist phase will target students of grade 12 who have completed the English language placement test.

Dr Hanif said the ministry was surprised to see the high numbers of students wanting to get into the programme. As many as 1,400 students who have applied for the programme from Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, 764 of them have completed the English language placement test. He said another 550 students are on the waiting list.
