UAE National Day was celebrated in style by George Mason University, Ras Al Khaimah Campus. Hundreds of sweets were dropped over the campus by a police helicopter.

Ursula Seifert, director of student affairs said: “This year's celebrations have been different as the students have come up with innovative and creative ideas that are derived from the heritage, traditions and culture of the UAE.''

The official celebrations continued at 2 pm with welcoming speeches from two of George Mason University, Ras Al Khaimah Campus' Emarati students, Sheikh Ali bin Talib Al Qasimi and Sheikha Al Shamsi.

The events organised by the office of student affairs included poetry readings, traditional dancing performed by school children, art exhibitions, contests, plays, a henna studio and a live cooking station.

Ras Al Khaimah Campus Vice President, Dr Sharon Siverts said: “The 36th National Anniversary, which falls on December 2, is an important day in the calendar of the UAE It is a day to remember the history of the country, celebrate its achievements and look forward to the opportunities and challenges of the future.''

“Today as we celebrate the UAE National Day, we are also celebrating a campus achievement towards which we have been working hard: the submission of our licensure documents to the Commission of Academic Accreditation,'' she said.

The National Day celebrations ended in the evening with a student, faculty and staff car procession around Ras Al Khaimah.
