A convoy of beautiful cars sparkled in the sunshine as members of the Ferrari Owners' Club enjoyed their second event of the year.

A total of 15 cars gathered at the Montgomerie Golf Club, Dubai for an enjoyable breakfast, before departing for the trip to Abu Dhabi.

The line of cars travelling on Shaikh Zayed Road presented a splendid sight as they passed along the highway, bound for the new Shangri-La Hotel Qaryat Al Beri in Abu Dhabi.

Many guests, passers-by and members of the hotel's staff took the opportunity to photograph the Ferrari models against the splendid backdrop of the new hotel.

A conference room had been set aside where a presentation was given to the members about the development of Yas Island together with the Formula 1 race track and Ferrari World Theme Park.

The entire project looks most exciting, and is on schedule for a Grand Prix to be held in Abu Dhabi towards the end of next year.

The Ferrari Owners' Club UAE forms part of a global network of such clubs aimed at promoting the enjoyment of the Ferrari marque by owners past and present.

These clubs are all officially recognised by Ferrari SpA in Italy, and the UAE club has the support of the local distributor, Al Tayer Motors.

The UAE Owners' Club was founded in 2002 and currently comprises more than 60 members.

A number of events are planned covering drives to various locations, dinners and track day events, which will include training in safe driving techniques.

Acting Club President Fred Kamperman is keen to see the UAE club feature amongst the best such clubs in the world.

There are a substantial number of Ferraris in the UAE, reflecting the success of the marque and its motor sport activities.

The coming of a Formula 1 Grand Prix to the UAE will hopefully encourage greater ownership of the classy car and an increasing number of members for the UAE Ferrari Owners' Club.

As Fred likes to point out however, the ultimate success of the club is not driven by the number of members or events but by the fun and enjoyment that members derive from taking part.
