Dubai Municipality took part in the third Worldwide Forum on Electronic Democracy held last week in Paris at the initiative of the Mayor of lssyles-Moulineaux, Chairman of Global Cities Dialogue.

Qassim Sultan, Director General of Dubai Municipality, said that the city has been taking part in a number of international events lately, especially meetings of organisations related to local bodies and municipal work, he said.

Sultan said Dubai is the first Gulf city to be included in the Global Cities Dialogue.

The Dubai Municipality delegation led by Sultan comprised Engineer Hussain Nasser Lootah, Assistant Director General for Environment and Public Health Affairs; and Engineer Munther Akram Juma, Head of the External Relations and Organisations Office.

The forum drew 450 delegates from around the world. Other Arab cities which took part were Riyadh, Cairo, and Akdal.

Engr. Juma said that Sultan played an important role in the meeting during the interaction with the other dignitaries, which displayed the position Dubai has acquired among the international cities.

Dubai Municipality, which has already introduced 47 online services, came in for praise during the meeting for its implementation of e-governance.

He said the meeting was being held just before the French elections, where IT is widely used for informing the public about the leading positions and victories in the election.

Global Cities Dialogue meeting is a forum where cities around the world collectively put in efforts for an information society, which forms the base for sustainable development. As a geographical, political, economic and cultural unit, each city has a role in this process.

The idea of the Global Cities Dialogue was launched in Europe and later spread to all the cities of the world.
