As the weeding out process in the Dh 44,000 Emarat UAE Ramadan Snooker Tournament continued, Ahmed Hashim fought tooth and nail to down Hassan Ali in the first round at the Dubai Snooker Club.

While some close matches kept the excitement going, a spat of walk overs also continued. Ahmed Hareb Al Zabi played truant giving Nasser Ali Salem an easy passage to the second round while Talal Sultan also got a walk over to the second round when Saeed Mohammed failed to turn up for their first round match on Thursday late night.

Ahmed started on a winning note when he raced to 2-0 lead with a 60-31, 58-20 win, but Hassan Ali clawed back, winning a close third frame 68-40. Then in the fourth he dominated the play for a comfortable 52-13 win.

However, in the tight and close fifth frame Ahmed managed to keep Hassan away for a 50-37 win and a place in the second round.

Rahma Al Shamshi rallied to win against Sultan Ali, who won the first frame 59-30 but failed to keep up the momentum. Al Shamshi got going by potting colour balls almost after every red to keep a steady lead throughout and eventually won the scrappy frame 49-33.
