The Central Bank has issued commemorative silver coins to mark the silver jubilee of the founding of the General Women's Union. The coins are of Dh50 and Dh1 denominations and will go into circulation today, the bank announced yesterday.

The face carries a portrait of President His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan with the denomination. The obverse displays the logo marking the union's silver jubilee. The Central Bank said the Dh50 coin can be bought at the Dubai Islamic Bank. The coins will be sold at face value, but a Dh17 premium will be charged for the Dh50 coin. The Dh1 coin will go into circulation in the usual way.

The Dh50 coin weighs 40 grams and has a diameter of 40mm. It is an alloy of 92.5 per cent silver and 7.5 per cent copper. The commemorative dirham has a diameter of 24mm and weighs 6.4 grams. It is 75 per cent copper and 25 per cent nickel.
