High-flying acts will touch down in Al Ain again. International aerobatic pilots will thrill spectators at the city's annual air show, from January 24 to 28.

A source at Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority announced details of the event yesterday, but a formal announcement is expected next week.

The annual air show will include a mid-air musical, titled The Al Ain Call of the Skies, as well as events to mark the centenary of the International Aeronautical Federation's World Grand Prix.

Aerobatic teams and performers (using jet and propeller aircraft) from several countries will participate in the event, which last year attracted thousands of spectators from the UAE and other countries. This will be the second time the Grand Prix will be held in the UAE.

Pilots will display their skills in aerobatic manoeuvres and will use their aircraft as an artistic tool to fly in time with the music.

A panel of international judges will assess their performance.

Al Ain Air Show 2005 is organised by Abu Dhabi Tourism Authority with the support of Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Air College, Al Ain Municipality and Town Planning Department, Abu Dhabi Department of Civil Aviation, the General Directorate of Abu Dhabi Police and Al Ain International Airport.

The Authority has regularly been organising different types of activities as part of its strategy to develop Al Ain as a major tourist destination in the region.
