Dubai: The UAE Sports Media Committee (SMC) has decided in its fourth meeting held at Al Bayan premises in Dubai, chaired by SMC board chairman Abdullah Ebrahim, to organise courses to improve the working standards of SMC members.

The move is in line with SMC's general policy to develop the standards of media members and let them benefit from modern working techniques.

The SMC decided to start the courses in the coming season with all media members (beginners as well as experienced) to take part.

The meeting was attended by Arab Media Group leaders expressing their support to the SMC.

The SMC congratulated Al Bayan on the occasion of completing 29 years of its establishment. The SMC board members were briefed by general secretary Mohammad Al Joker about the Congress of the International Sports Press Association meeting held in Milan from April 29 to May 3.

The SMC attended the congress with a delegation chaired by Abdullah Ebrahim, along with Al Joker and members Esam Salem and Mohammad Jasem.

The SMC praised the participation of the SMC board member Abdul Hamid Ahmad, Editor-in-Chief of Gulf News and Executive Director of Publications, who added a lot to the SMC with his vast experience and by presenting his view for the SMC work plan in the coming period.

Abdul Hamid was one of the first Emirati sport reporters who worked for Al Nasr magazine in the early 1970s.

The SMC thanked the General Authority of Youth and Sports Welfare (GAYSW) for providing the SMC with new premises at the Leaders Development Centre in Al Ghusais.

The SMC premises will be inaugurated next week. The SMC accepted the invitation of the National Olympic Committee for two sport reporters and one photographer to accompany the UAE delegation taking part in the Asian Youth Games in Singapore from June 29 to July 7.

One reporter will also accompany the national volleyball team participating in the World Cup qualifiers to be held in China from May 22-24. Another reporter will accompany the snooker national team taking part in the Arab snooker championships in Cairo from June 4-12.

The SMC will also name a reporter to attend the Queen Polo Championships on the Al Habtoor Cup which is held in England.

In the meeting, the SMC board members were informed about the GAYSW board decision to postpone the changing of the name of the SMC to be an association instead of a committee.
