His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed has called for a strategy to train qualified Omanis for suitable occupations.

Addressing the opening session of the annual meeting of the Council of Oman in Muscat, Sultan Qaboos said: "We have observed that some members of the society have not been able to utilise their innate abilities and financial capabilities to improve themselves and develop their skills to avail suitable job opportunities."

"Thus, it has become necessary to assist them to obtain the qualifications and training they need," he said.

"We, therefore, instruct our government to set up a suitable mechanism through which assistance can be provided to these people enabling them to obtain useful occupations.

"Thereby, God willing, they can benefit from the job opportunities that are available." He termed the development of human resources as one of the major achievements of his government.

"We did and still do firmly believe that the development of these resources is the cornerstone of the development process in any society, because the human being is the ultimate goal and aim of development as well as being its means and its producer," he said.

The council session was attended by royal family members, ministers, presidents of the two councils, and senior officials.

Sultan Qaboos stressed: "Raising, developing, qualifying, training, enhancing skills and diversifying the experience of its human resources would guarantee building of a modern state with progress in all aspects of life."

He reminded citizens that the government had provided them with great opportunities to acquire knowledge and practical training, which in turn "has prepared them to enter the labour market and to contribute to the building of nation".

Sultan Qaboos urged young Omanis to refrain from often switching jobs, and asked them to gain long-term experience at one workplace.
