His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Saeed has condoled the death of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud of Saudi Arabia and announced three days of official mourning.

A statement from the Diwan of the Royal Court stated that the Sultan has received with grief the news of the death of King Fahd.

During the three-day mourning period, flags will be kept at half-mast. Work at government departments was closed from yesterday.

The statement further said the Omani Government and people share with the people of Saudi Arabia their sorrow and pray that the Almighty rests King Fahd's soul in peace and gives his family and the Saudi people strength to bear his loss.

The government also ordered the closure of all private sector establishments today as a mark of respect.

Meanwhile, ministries and official establishments in Bahrain will remain closed for three days starting today after the country yesterday declared a 40-day mourning period for the death of King Fahd. All flags on official buildings will be kept at half-mast during the mourning, said a decision issued by the Prime Minister, Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al Khalifa.

In a statement released by the Royal Court, His Majesty King Hamad Bin Eisa Al Khalifa said Bahrain lost a dear father, an outstanding leader and a wise man who passed away after a lifetime of devotion and achievements for his people, nation and religion."
