The way you sit at your desk could have an impact on your work, warned a specialist physiotherapist.

Improving posture in the work place will not only prevent muscle strain, but can also lead to increased efficiency.

Rashid Buhari, chief physiotherapist at the Belhoul Speciality Hospital, says occupational hazards at desk jobs do occur and slouching can provoke stiff, sore necks by the end of the day.

"Physical pain, from sitting in a chair all day, is one of the most common work-related injuries," said Bulhari.

"There are many changes that can be done in the workplace to improve posture. Timely and appropriate preventive care would save the economy millions in lost workdays," said Buhari.

Dr Pinn, a specialist physician from the Dubai London Clinic said wrist and neck injuries were the most common.

"These types of injuries can put you out of work for a couple of weeks at a time so trying to avoid them in the first place is a good option.

"In the past, occupational health hazards were caused by heavy lifting but nowadays sitting at your desk for long periods of time can have the same effect."
