Sakhr Software Co will take part in a major e-government conversion plan in Qatar, company representatives said.
The announcement came after the signing of a major contract between Qatar Computer Services, the authorised Sakhr dealer in that country, and the Supreme Council for the Environment and Natural Reserves. The Council aims to become a paperless office, officials said.
"We have decided to adopt Sakhr's solutions to complete the technical infrastructure [needed] to develop the Council's online activities, in keeping with the Council's environmental policies," said Mubarak Khalifa Al Dosari, director of the National Centre of Environmental Information.
"Our plans are very ambitious. We hope to build a highly advanced portal that fulfils the needs of [stakeholders] and [is consistent with] the spirit of the e-government initiative of Qatar. We have found that Sakhr's technologies and solutions have the necessary features to fulfil all of our requirements," he said.
Under the contract, the Council will replace the traditional method of handling operations and relations with its clients with a new, advanced method. This will include automating services for the general public, assisting public users to initiate and monitor their requests and facilitating communication between public users and Council employees.
The new method will use modern applications and advanced procedures to generate detailed reports. The reports will be used to manage the administrative functions of the Council.
The reports will also be used to improve the decision-making process and the formulation and implementation of policies by allowing analysis of information gathered from different sources.
The project also involves developing and operating an online services network for the Council, officials said.
