A total of 5,483 illegal street vendors, beggars and car washers were apprehended by Dubai Municipality last year.

"The operations against the lawbreakers also resulted in the seizure of several low-quality goods, pirated CDs and pornographic films," said Obeid Salem Al Shamsi, Assistant Director-General of Dubai Municipality for Administrative Affairs and General Services.

Municipality inspectors conduct daily spot checks to prevent street vending, begging and illegal car washing in violation of the law set forth by the Ministry of Labour and Social Affairs.

Nine inspectors at the security and monitoring unit at the municipality carry out regular checks.

Last year, they caught 5,483 people: 3,727 street vendors, 1,381 beggars and 375 car washers.
