Dubai: Amir Mohammad landed a tricky conversion three minutes from time to seal a dramatic 12-10 Arabian Gulf League win for Dubai Dragons over Dubai Exiles.

The Gulf international's kick skidded over the bar to complete a fighting comeback from the Dragons who trailed by 10 points at the turnaround and appeared to be out of contention in the muddy conditions.

However, coach Andy Jones read the riot act at half-time - a performance which later earned him the Man-of-the-Match award - and the Dragons responded to dominate the second period and keep alive their hopes of another league title as they regained pole position.

Gaining confidence

Skipper Vivian Albertyn said: "We were lucky to be only 10 points down at half time, but the second half was a different story.

"We never stopped believing and this win will give us a lot of confidence and momentum for the new year."

Sean Hurley claimed the Dragons' first try after a great break from Denis Perez while Albertyn crashed over for the score that levelled things up.

Earlier, skipper Mike Cox-Hill and scrum-half Colin Mortimore scored tries for the Exiles. Cox-Hill said: "It's very disappointing. We played well first half but took our foot off the pedal and lost focus."
