At a time when the monstrous Israeli aggression continues to take place against the Lebanese people, the international community stands quietly without taking an initiative to stop this illegal and illegitimate attack. Since the beginning, tens of Lebanese civilians have been killed and hundreds injured. Not to mention the grave financial losses (billions of dollars) that the Lebanese economy will have to face, which will cause it to recoil.

Al Mustaqbal (Lebanon), comment by Khair Allah Khair Allah

Unlike what is expected, Hezbollah's capture of two Israeli soldiers did not remove any Israeli pressure from the Gaza Strip. The Israeli government took advantage of the international attention on Lebanon (because of open Israeli aggression) to carry on with its campaign in the Strip, which has been taking place since 25th of last month- following Hamas's capture of an Israeli soldier. What Lebanon is witnessing are dangerous developments that are considered part of Israel's 'right' of war. It begs a pressing question: are there restrictions to what Israel is doing? The answer for now is no and this is supported by the fact that the most powerful country in the world, the US, has already expressed its understanding of Israeli actions in response to the capture.

What is the Israeli aim behind this open war? The answer to this question is partly found in reports that show that Israel has begun redrawing the Lebanese borders and in so doing, carving more Southern Lebanese land. Also, Ari Avnari confirmed that the real reason behind Israel's open war is to change the official [government] situation in Lebanon and to bring in a new government in Beirut that follows Tel Aviv's instructions. Lebanon continues to undergo Zionist attacks that are protected by American collusion.

Al Quds (Palestine), editorial

If America insists on giving Israel more time to carry out its aggression and stops any attempt of the international community to apply pressure on Israel (arguing that Iran, Syria, and Hezbollah are behind the current crisis and the absence of stability in the region) it is clear that the US is ignoring the main reason for this situation: the illegal Israeli occupation of Palestinian and Arab lands (including Syrian and Lebanese land). Also, Israel's insistence on re-drawing the region's map as she sees fit is also pertinent and this has been demonstrated in the country's handling of the peace process. It was not a coincidence that the secretary general of the Arab League announced the 'death' of the peace process and the fact that Israel's unilateral attempts to exhaust all efforts of reaching a peaceful resolution is pushing the region into a place of nervousness and in fact explosion.

Al Watan (Oman), comment by Naser Al Yahmadi

It has been a common practice for Hezbollah to heat things up with the Northern battle front of Israel every time the Israeli war machine increased its violence against the Palestinian front. This was meant to ease the pressure from the Palestinian resistance and Palestinian cities. But the recent operation carried out by Hezbollah is considered a peculiar and intelligent one (with fighters storming Israeli borders, attacking a military post, killing numerous Israeli soldiers and capturing two). This was followed by the destruction of an Israeli naval vessel near the coast of Beirut. In doing this, Hezbollah has enforced a new 'reality' for Israel especially with the new Israeli government, which did not anticipate opening up a new front that requires a lot of attention. Hezbollah has shaken calculations of the occupying army ... this operation comes as a fulfillment to the promise they [Hezbollah] made on freeing the prisoners in Israeli jails.
