Thiruvananthapuram: Accomplished Malayalam movie and television actor M.S. Tripunithura died early last morning.

He was found dead in a train, while returning to his home in Tripunithura after shooting for a Malayalam television serial.

The 64-year-old actor had boarded a train at Shoranur after a shooting schedule in Thalassery. He was found unconscious on one of the berths of the passenger train bound for Ernakulam by co-passengers around 4.50am.

He was rushed to the railway hospital but could not be saved. Family members and relatives later took the body to his home in Tripunithura where hundreds of mourners had gathered from the time the news of his death reached the actor's native place.

The versatility of the man is clear from the fact that he made a mark in fields as varied as teaching mathematics, cooking, giving lectures on spiritual topics and acting on stage and in movies.

M.S. Tripunithura, whose real name was M.S. Venkataraman, began his acting career with a minor role in the 1964 movie Kadalamma, or 'Mother Sea'.
