Abu Dhabi: The Ministry of Health is approving over 100 new medical products related to treating a variety of conditions, including cancer, said Easa Al Mansouri, Director of the Drug Control Department, Ministry of Health (MoH).

Antibiotics and medicine for asthmatic patients are also among the 107 drugs to be approved.

"These drugs include diverse medical products and will be introduced into the market for the first time through various multinational, Middle Eastern, GCC and local manufacturers," said Al Mansouri.

In addition, the MoH has refused a request from agents to increase prices for three medical products manufactured by European companies from 30 to 100 per cent.

Humaid Mohammad Al Shamsi, Assistant Undersecretary of Pharmacy and Supplies, said that the ministry, in line with instructions from the Minister of Health, Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami, is keen not to increase the price of medicines to protect patients from high medical costs.

Al Shamsi added that pharmaceutical companies had been trying to hike the price of medicines for the past year, but the MoH was doing its utmost to keep current prices stable.

"Our committee rejected the prices for medical products because the justification for the price increase was not satisfactory and the request to hike medical products was very high," said Al Shamsi.

The MoH will not interfere in the price range for products related to saline solutions.
