Abu Dhabi: The Abu Dhabi Awards received an exceptional response with a 240 per cent increase in nominations as compared to last year, with more than 9,500 individual citizens being nominated for their selfless contribution to the betterment of society.

Over 24,000 residents all over the UAE were nominated, resulting in a total of 34,294 nominations.

“We are delighted with the response, particularly the number of individual nominations received this year. Our hope is that the 240 per cent increase in nominated recipients is a strong indicator that more people are making positive contributions to our Emirate, as this goes to the very core of why the Awards were initially established,'' said Mariam Amiri, Abu Dhabi Awards Organizing Committee.

The Abu Dhabi Awards represents the commitment of President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan to preserve the legacy of Shaikh Zayed Bin Sultan Al Nahyan.

Nominations are currently being reviewed and the winning individuals will be announced at an awards ceremony to be held at the Emirates Palace in December 2007.
