Dubai: A new skyscraper tower combining traditional Islamic and modern architecture will be built in the Dubai Creek area.

His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, on Saturday approved the engineering design of the tower, which will be implemented by Emaar.

Shaikh Mohammad, accompanied by Mohammad Ali Al Alabbar, Charmin of Emaar, and Fadel Al Ali, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Holding, visited an exhibition in which six global consultancy-engineering companies are competing the new tower’s design at Burj Khalifa.

While visiting the exhibition, Shaikh Mohammad reviewed a number of engineering designs by some international consulting companies and approved a design by the renowned Spanish-Swiss designer Santiago Calatrava Valls.

The design will reflect the local environment and the UAE’s rich culture and heritage.

Shaikh Mohammad lauded the idea of the new tower at one of the most important historical sites, which will attract tourists and visitors

“The sustainable development is pressing ahead steadily as we planned and we will continue until we have achieved our aims and our people’s aspirations," said Shaikh Mohammad.

Shaikh Mohamad described the tower as a unique architectural masterpiece on a par with the Burj Khalifa and Eiffel Tower.

Al Alabbar thanked Shaikh Mohammad for his continuous support and confidence in Emaar’s projects, which he said will propel our company toward more success and boost the national economy, as well as contribute to developing smart cites.

He said: “The new tower designed for the Dubai Creek will become a monument and cultural and tourist landmark, combining Islamic architecture and modern design. It will be unique in its design to stand as an iconic building that reflects cultural diversity."

The work on the tower will begin over the next few weeks and its height will later be announced, he added.
