London: A dentist who charged for an expensive whitening treatment when he simply rubbed Sensodyne into patients' teeth could face being struck off.

Paul Abbott, of Rayleigh, Essex, claimed for using cementum cream on seven patients but actually applied Sensodyne. He told the General Dental Council it was an effective treatment for sensitive teeth.

He admitted claiming for expensive painkillers when patients were given basic supermarket mouthwash.

Abbott, who practised in Southend-on-Sea, Essex, until March last year, also took radiographs for no reason.
