Dubai: Former world contestants joined local talents Maria and Mihail Kouzev in conducting an Epee fencing workshop in Dubai last week.

Maria and Mihail Kouzev joined Jan Bade, the President of the Finnish Fencing Federation, and Dennis Bade, the current national champion of Finland, in conducting the Epee workshop.

Finnish national champion Dennis Bade interacted with fencers from Dubai and Abu Dhabi at the Dubai Fencing Club at the Mina Salam Quay Health Club as part of the day-long workshop. He is currently ranked 20th in the world.

"The turnout was fantastic as we concentrated on the finer aspects of skill development in Epee fencing," stated Mihail Kouzev, President of the Dubai Fencing Club.

Last year, Dennis Bade was placed sixth in the World Championship for Veterans.

Dennis Bade has just competed at a recent FIE tournament in Iran where he was placed an overall fifth.

The Dubai Fencing Club and the UAE Fencing Academy organised the workshop with the above world class fencers to exchange skills and latest training methods with local fencers - national and expatriates alike.

Mohammad Al Khood, General Secretary of the UAE Fencing Federation and Ebrahim Khalid were the special guests on the occasion.

"This event was very important to all fencers in the UAE, now we are on the international map with our own federation," added Kouzev.

"We hope this workshop can turn into an annual event so that we can invite more fencers in the future," he stated.

"I was impressed with the extremely high standards of fencing at the club. Also really impressive was the great sportsmanship displayed by all fencers," noted Bade.
